The Best Tinder for Starting Fires!
Lost your matches? Here's a fast and easy way to
start a fire using 100% jute twine. Over the years I've used lots of tinder like steel wool, shredded cedar and 100% cotton balls.
Jute Twine is the BEST tinder I've found. Simply apply a small spark to shredded jute using a flint
and steel to start a fire. Shredded jute also works great with a burning ember from char-cloth,
fire pistons and bow drills.
TIP: Jute twine is very strong and can also be used for camp crafts and securing your gear. Don't leave home without it!

STEP 2. Create a tinder bundle. Tear or shred the jute strands apart creating a small airy fuzz ball.
Place the tinder bundle on a safe location on the ground. Build a small tinder pile (tee-pee style) over
the jute fuzz ball with small twigs, dried grass and leaves.
STEP 3. Using your flint bar and steel, apply sparks to the tinder bundle (jute fuzz ball), igniting into a
small flame. Gently blow on the flame until the tinder pile ignites then add larger twigs and small pieces of wood,
allowing the fire to grow.
NOTE: Shredded jute also ignites using hot embers from char-cloth, fire pistons or bow drills. However,
if you're going to use a burning ember, you'll need a large jute fuzz ball about the size of
your fist to start a fire. To save your tinder check out my

, it works great starting fires with a small amount of tinder, using hot embers and coals from char-cloth, fire pistons or bow drills.
STORAGE:
IMPORTANT: Jute twine must be dry to start fires. Take care to protect it from the elements!
However, if it gets wet, simply let it dry out. It's reuseable when it's dry.
